Dear Journal,

This week we did the same thing as the last. There was new chapters added to the mix which expanded the plot of the story and it is getting more interesting as it goes. Jack is being a jerk to Piggy and does not treat him with respect (nor does anyone else). Jack apologizes for not watching the fire but neglects to sympathize for what he did to Piggy. This is not how Jack should be portraying his leadership qualities.


Going back to the notion that leaders don't need the title of leader to be a leader, I think that Jack should have not been a leader. Although he may lead the group, that doesn't mean he is a good leader. I think Simon or piggy could have been better leaders than Jack. Jack is very self centered, conceited, and may seem like he is interested in the wants and needs of the others, but really isn't in my opinion.


I want to have someone else such as Piggy or Simon along with Ralph as the leaders of the island because they all show more leadership abilities than Jack.


The quotes we learn in class relate to what happens in the book and keeps the students in check of keeping those quotes along with the symbols in mind and how they relate to the new plot that happens in every chapter.

Dear Journal, This week we have done quite a lot in class. First off , I already expressed we finished Lord of the Flies. For our final hurrah, we had a class debate. There were six or so groups and we had to each take turns going in the middle of the circle to discuss our views on the topics and listen to other's insight. The topics are as follows: whether Jack was an effective leader and were the kids bad before they got on the island or did the island turn them bad and bring the worst out of them. During the discussion, there was a lot of controversy and good points. During the discussion about whether Jack was an effective leader or not, there was a lot of talk about Hitler and his reign on Germany. People compared Jack to Hitler because Hitler made his soldiers do bad things and Jack also made the boys that followed him do bad things. How might ambition influence ethical decision-making? Ambition can be both bad and good. Ambition can drive someone to achieve their life goals. On the other hand, ambition can drive someone to kill students in a kindergarten center. There are different aspects of ambition. How much ambition can also influence whether ambition is good or bad.
