Why bother to protest? Some people find protests and demonstrations to be a waste of time and resources. They contend that there are other, more effective ways to cause change. Proponents of organized protests believe they create momentum for a cause and are crucial in effecting change. Where do you fall on the spectrum? What are the qualities of a successful protest? What other actions can be taken to cause change?
Protests can vary in the way they are presented and understood. Protests are one of the most productive and successful ways to get a point across. It only takes a few people to make a change. Protesting is extremely important when trying to make a major change, getting a point across, standing up for what you believe in, or just being recognized. Some people find protests and demonstrations to be a waste of time. I think people saying that is a waste of time. Protests are not a waste of time. Protests are made for people to be able to exercise their amendment of free speech. They are made for other people to really look at their point of view and consider what they have to say. Not every protest is successful. However, this is one of the most effective, efficient, and successful ways to make change happen. I personally believe that people who run protests and demonstrations for certain issues/ topics will most likely be successful with what they are trying to get across to other people and if not, at least get people to think about what they wanted to portray. A successful protest would include determined people fighting for or fighting against a rational cause, followers of the leader(s) of the protest, signs stating their opinion, and reasons why the opposing side is wrong. The protest will not be successful if not peaceful however. Other actions that can be taken to cause change would be fundraisers/ events that fight for or against a specific topic/ issue people feel strongly about. Another way to bring awareness to a specific issue/ topic would be campaigning for or against it. Overall, Protests are amazing, successful, and make change happen faster and more effectively.
